Friday 26 April 2013 – 15h00

Drakensberg Boys Choir: Choir Con Carne 80 Minutes
Tickets: R120 *R110 **R100 ***R80

This show highlights the versatility of the choir as an instrument. Audiences will get a glimpse of the flexibility and the possibilities of music sung with a choir. From compositions accompanied by a Jewish harp, tuned waterglasses, handbells and African marimba, adding extra colour to some of the music.
Audiences can expect to enjoy the latest pop songs on the charts, moving renditions of beloved classical works and virtuous contemporary choral music – an array of colours of the musical spectrum will be represented in this concert. The repertoire consists of extracts from musicals, pop and classical, together with a healthy selection of composed choral music and works with that something extra.

Friday 26 April 2013 – 18h30

Ladies & Lads 90 Minutes
Featuring the Drakensberg Boys Choir, Rina Hugo, Magda de Vries, Frank Mallows & Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi
Tickets: R130 *R120 **R110 (Prime Seating +R20 Per Ticket)

This is a show not to be missed!
Magda de Vries, Frank Mallows (the oldest ‘lad’ on stage) and the Drakensberg Boys Choir will join forces to perform the SAN Gloria, by Peter Louis van Dijk, especially arranged for this specific combination. The duo will entertain the audience on virtuous works for marimba and vibraphone.
Rina Hugo’s relationship with the DBC has been thriving for more than a decade. Rina and the young lads will entertain the audience with some golden oldies, while Hlengiwe, a young up-and-coming South African soprano, will deliver proof as to why she was the winner of the ATKV-Muziqanto national classical vocal competition.

Whenever and wherever you come across the Blarney Brothers you are sure to find a great big, foot-

stomping sing-along party.
Perhaps it is just because they simply play for the audience.
Making music they know everyone will love. It is all helped along with a liberal flavouring of genuine Irish Blarney and humour because the Blarney Brothers are as Irish as shamrock and poteen.
Their music is a mixture of Irish ballads, foot tapping pub songs, popular newies and the occasional Irish jig.

Navi Redd 60 Minutes
Price: R130 *R120 **R110 ***R90
Let’s face it, men singing A Cappella have never been an unsightly occurrence…and these A Cappella rebels bend all the rules and regulations of this genre. 100% testosterone, 120% talent, eye candy, ear candy… “A Cappella” of course means no musical instruments, no back-tracks…using nothing other than their brilliant vocal chords and outstanding microphone techniques.
Navi Redd is an A Cappella group with a sting in its tail and its repertoire includes anything from Grease and The Beach Boys to Johnny Clegg and Steve Hofmeyr, Queen to the Rolling Stones, Bee Gees to CCR and Nickelback to Timbaland. Since the group’s inception early in 2004, Navi Redd has been amusing crowds all over South Africa, and has grown to be loved by the public and widely respected by all involved in the corporate entertainment industry … A Cappella for the people! Recently they also performed internationally in Namibia and the Seychelles.

This darkly glamorous gothic tale of the strange little man who hated children, who spun straw into gold, and who could split the earth with a stamp of his foot, is brought to horrifying life by Creative Madness, an award winning company who have produced shows like A Mariner’s Tale, A Froggy Fairytale and The Legend of Icarus, in association with the Actors Unemployed Company (The Complete Works of Shakespeare – Abridged, and Birdman).
Using puppets and a wistful Victorian air, this grim tale is regaled.
27 April 2012 – 30 April 2012 tbc

Music in the Mountains is a yearly festival featuring performances by the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir alongside other South African musicians. It is held over 4 days in a spectacular mountain setting, treating music lovers to a fabulous experience that combines natural beauty with natural talent.

Feel Good Factor: The Drakensberg Boys’ Choir Outreach Programme supports neighboring schools and local disadvantaged communities, helping to improve education at the Champagne Valley Primary School, Meadowsweet Combined School and Nkwethu Children’s Village in Loskop.

Since 1971, when Music in the Mountains had it premiere, the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir has been making beautiful music and entertaining thousands of music lovers from as far afield as the United States and the Far East.

Music in the Mountains, an annual 4-day concert festival, sees the choir performing in the spectacular Drakensberg mountains where their school is based.

The programme for this Drakensberg music festival features a mix of musical styles: classical, rock, pop, jazz, African, folk music and more, giving the boys a chance to display their range and skill.

The festival begins with a performance of highlights from the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir’s repertoire for 2012, including popular pieces from musicals as well as a selection of pop, classical and South African folk song standards. This is followed by a performance from visiting choirs and an evening show called Flip-a-Coin, where, using only voices, the group transforms itself into a live band.

During the following day, there are more concerts from visiting choirs and appearances by winners of national talent searches.

Music in the Mountains continues with a praise-and-worship session by a leading Christian band. In the evening, visitors can look forward to the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir performing in the final show of the event.

The Drakensberg Boys’ Choir is internationally acclaimed for its African repertoire, which includes accompaniment by authentic African instruments and body percussion. They also excel at music such as Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Bach’s Magnificat.

History: The Drakensberg Boys’ Choir school welcomed its first 20 students in January 1967. The school is now internationally recognised and is home to one of South Africa’s most talented choirs.

Demand for Drakensberg accommodation has always been high, especially in the Central Drakensberg valley in which we are situated. The immense scenic majesty of our area, with its cultural and natural wonders has even been awarded World Heritage Site status. This also means that there are big restrictions on future Drakensberg developments and that it is quite unlikely that more accommodation options will be developed in the future.

The Drakensberg has always attracted all types of people, all looking for different accommodation to suit their needs. Our area now boasts accommodation ranging from basic camping in the Drakensberg foothills all the way up to beautiful suites offering a great degree of space and luxury. The Nest offers unique Drakensberg accommodation in Garden Rondavels, Mountain View Rooms and executive Suites. Rates are fully inclusive of all meals and offer a variety of traditional tastes of South Africa. Our Garden Rondavels offer a comfortable accommodation option set in our tranquil gardens.

[SinglePic not found]

The Mountain View Rooms are very popular with their patios overlooking the major peaks of the Central Drakensberg. They are an ideal place to relax and observe the silent and towering mountains – especially in the evening for those impressive Drakensberg sunsets.

We now also have two Executive Suites offering more refined accommodation. These rooms are increasingly popular and are fully booked over most weekends.

[SinglePic not found]

Although the Drakensberg is a year round destination, certain periods are in very high demand for accommodation. Easter, the Festive Season and long weekends sees our valley at full capacity as guests treat themselves and their families to a well-earned Drakensberg getaway. For these times of the year, it is important to reserve your accommodation well in advance.

Following the fierce cold and icy grip that winter has spread across South Africa, we have received a generous blanket of snow on the mountains of our valley. The major peaks of the Central Drakensberg look magnificent under their elegant coat of gleaming white snow. This morning there was a heavy frost and all the plants, railings, fences and fixtures were covered with a layer of ice crystals, all catching the morning sun and glinting all colours of the rainbow briefly before melting. Although the Drakensberg is locked in the ice and cold of winter, our accommodation is cozy and warm with delightful thatched rooms offering a welcome comfort against the cold. At nights, the bar, with its log burning fire, is the ideal place to escape the chill and relax with a sherry before dinner. our six course dinner, served Monday to Saturday, is also a very good way to spend an evening escaping the cold!

The snow has arrived early this year and by most forecasts, we can expect a chilly season with a whole lot more snow on our mountains and in our valley.
